The sales guy asked me what I was after and I foolishly said
"Just a dry vac for doing carpet"So then I get the full demonstration where you have to vacuum the carpet with sand worked into it with two different vacs to see the difference between the $900 vacuum and the $1500 vacuum.
After all of that, I asked him, "So what can you recommend for up to $200?" and this is what he said... I exagerate not:
At this point I said, "I'll think about it." and left the store.
"Well I would recommend the red one over there for a good motorised vac head. It is pretty good. The one with 549."
*I assume that the unit must be on sale for $200 because I specifically asked for units up to $200*
Then he continues, "But if you're going to go for that one then I would recommended paying a little more and getting this one *shows me a better one* for 699."
I then retorted, "So... the red one over there... is that $549?"
"Yeah that one is 549."
He then shows me the repayments on the $699 machine.
Now... for any sales people (paid actors) out there reading this... I'm not 100% sure but some of you are living (or maybe just working) in some little

We're not.
This guy didn't listen to the vital part of my message. "Up to $200". Obviously the vacs from $200 and lower are going to be pieces of crap compared to the 900 and 1500 dollar ones, but when a customer specifically asks you to recommend a product within a certain price range - you should listen and act accordingly. I will leave your shop and not buy anything for forever more because of your ignorance.
So to conclude I guess the only thing to say is: FAIL.
How you going with the vaccuum situation. What are those infomercial ones like. We have a dyson, but I nearly picked up the phone and ordered one.
It is scary how much stuff gets trapped in carpet. Have you every swept a carpet? Just remembered what the kids did to the carpet in my car, better get on to that.
Still don't have one. there were wet/dry vacs (industrial type ones) on sale a few weeks ago for about $100 and we ummed and arred over it too long and they either sold out or went off sale. Should've got one for EOFYS really. Its hard to buy one that isn't a really expensive one because you know you'll gt ticked off with it eventually, and it's hard to buy a really expensive one when you can't afford it! :)
Just get one of the 49$ vacs from Walmart. They work just fine! In fact my folks were so impressed with mine that they ditched the central-vac that's built into the home and bought one similar to mine. It's an upright with great suction and I can't believe I'm raving about it but I don't understand... why on earth would anyone spend more than 100$ for a vac! Seriously!
...and why do they need sales people to sell a vac. It's not a car! it doesn't have any features.. just push and suck! Haha! Which is the same thing sales people do to gulible people.. push and suck $$
