HOWTO Alter, CHange or Remove Underline or Box Shadow from Anchor HREF Links in Wordpress 4.9.5 Theme TwentySeventeen
This note just logs how I altered the CSS styles in Wordpress 4.9.5 with theme TwentySeventeen to change the link colours and style, and also to control the box shadow (which at the time I didn't even know what that thing was called)

So if you install Wordpress and have the twentyseventeen theme you might find that links by default have an underline and when you hover them, those underlines grow thicker with an animation.

If you want to alter them or remove them, you can use the Custom CSS section in Wordpress admin panel which is at Customize -> Additional CSS.

You will find this is empty by default, so what do you put in here? For the TLDR here is something that will let you alter the attributes of the <a> styles for the main content area and content summary areas:

/* changes link style in main content areas and content summary areas */
div[class*="entry-content"] a, div[class*="entry-summary"] a {
color: #0050ff;
text-decoration: none;
box-shadow: none;
}

/* changes link hover style in main content areas and content summary areas */
div[class*="entry-content"] a:hover, div[class*="entry-summary"] a:hover {
color: #000000;
text-decoration: none;
box-shadow: 0px 3px #000000;
}

Add this and publish the change, then you can play with the attribute values to alter how you like. box-shadow can be set to 'none' if you like to remove it

What you are doing here is setting the style for any div where the class value contains (*) entry-content or entry-summary and is an anchor tag. The a:hover obviously sets the hover state for the same element.

God I HATE website styling.
