"New" Vegemite?!
Over the last month there's been a lot of talk about a new product in stores that was loosely coined "new vegemite". A competition was ran to choose a name for the new spread/condiment and eventually iSnack 2.0 was chosen. When this was broadcast in the media in Australia, everyone started kicking up about it.

Apparently the name was no good. Then people started buying it and saying it tasted no good. For those that don't know, Vegemite is a spreadable food made from yeast extract. It is black in colour and is rather salty tasting. Unless you are brought up as a kid eating it you generally don't like it. It's possibly the icon food of Australia.

So people are trying this new spread and complaining "it sucks!" and then "the name sucks!". The thing that was getting to me was the media coverage of all of this. The way the media was spinning it, from what I saw, was that Vegemite was no longer existing, this new spread replaced vegemite and everyone had to get used to the new name.

You can still BUY Vegemite. This is a new product. When I heard what the new one was - vegemite with cheese spread mixed with it - I knew it would taste bad. Cheese spread tastes like ass. Why would you buy it? This product is NOT Vegemite. Why complain about the name? It's a totally different product and has no affect on Vegemite's name.

So due to the massive media hype over this, the company that sells it (Kraft? Sanitarium? I don't know who owns Vegemite anymore. It's the Americans anyway) changed the name again to Cheesybite. So everyone now says "oh what a boring name."

I guess they would like 3 marshmallows with it as well?
